The schools reopening briefing by Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga has been postponed to Monday at 11am at the Sunrise View Secondary School, Rustenburg.

Motshekga was expected to brief the nation at 4pm but this was rescheduled to 6pm on Sunday.

In a statement, the Basic Education Department says postponements is due to the Minister being engaged in further consultations on the readiness for the reopening of schools.

On Friday teacher unions and national governing body associations warned the reopening of schools on Monday would be a grievous mistake and urged the basic education minister to reconsider.

Grade 7’s and matrics were expected to resume with the 2020 academic calendar from Monday while other grades, were expected to be gradually phased in from 6 July and 3 August.
