COVID-19 Deaths Jump to 2,456, Infections Rise to 138,134

The Health Department has announced that the number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 138,134.

This is an increase of 6,334 from Saturday’s announcement.

The number of deaths has also increased by 43 bringing the total to 2,456.

The Western Cape has the most infections with 60,445 followed by Gauteng at 36,895, Eastern Cape at 25,099 KwaZulu-Natal 8,433, Free State 1,279, North West 3,647, Mpumalanga 1,016, Limpopo 935, Northern Cape 385 and unallocated infections 0.

The total number of recoveries to date is 68,925.

Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 1,567,084 this is an increase of 38,075 which were done in the last 24 hours.

“Regrettably we report 43 new COVID-19 related deaths bringing the total to 2456.”

Mkhize has expressed his condolences to the affected families of those who have succumbed to the pandemic.
