COVID-19 Deaths Jump to 3,860, Infections Rise to 250,687

The Health Department has announced that the number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 250,687

This is an increase of 12,348 from Thursday’s announcement.

The number of deaths has also increased by 140 bringing the total to 3,860.

Gauteng has the most infections with 87,033 followed by Western Cape at 76,067, Eastern Cape at 46,284, KwaZulu-Natal 21,386, Free State 4,221, North West 8,676, Mpumalanga 3,273, Limpopo 2,579, Northern Cape 1,168 and unallocated infections 0.

The total number of recoveries to date is 118,232, which translates to a recovery rate of 47,2%.

Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 2,057,232, this is an increase of 56,663 which were done in the last 24 hours.

“Regrettably, we report a further 140 COVID-19 related deaths – 11 from KwaZulu Natal, 24 from Eastern Cape, 39 from Gauteng and 66 from Western Cape. This brings the total deaths to 3,860.”

Mkhize has expressed his condolences to the affected families of those who have succumbed to the pandemic.
