COVID-19 Deaths Rise to 1,625, Infections Jump to 76,334

The Health Department has announced that the number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 76,334.

This is an increase of 2,801 from Monday’s announcement.

The number of deaths has also increased by 57 bringing the total to 1,625

The Western Cape has the most infections with 45,357 followed by Gauteng at 13,023, Eastern Cape at 11,039, KwaZulu-Natal 4,048, Free State 578, North West 1,281, Mpumalanga 343, Limpopo 391, Northern Cape 211 and unallocated infections 63.

The total number of recoveries to date is 42,063 this translates to a recovery rate of 55.1%.

“Regrettably, we report a further 57 COVID-19 related deaths: 44 from Western Cape, 9 from the Eastern Cape, and 4 from KwaZulu Natal. This brings the total national deaths to 1625 with a mortality rate of 2,1%.”

Health Minister Dr. Zweli Mkhize has expressed his condolences to the affected families.
