COVID-19 Deaths Spike to 792, Infections Jump to 37,525

The Health Department has announced that the number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 37,525.

This is an increase of 1,713 from Tuesday’s announcement.

The number of deaths has also increased by 37 bringing the total to 792.

The Western Cape has the most infections with 24,657, followed by Gauteng at 4,567, KwaZulu-Natal 2,707, Free State 319, North West 314, Mpumalanga 137, Limpopo 200, Eastern Cape 4,526, Northern Cape 93 and unallocated infections 5.

The total number of recoveries to date is 19,682, this translates to a recovery rate of 52,45%.

Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 785,979, this is an increase of 24,445 which were done in the last 24 hours.

“Regrettably, we report 37 more COVID-19 related deaths: 7 in the Eastern Cape, 1 in Kwa-Zulu Natal and 29 in Western Cape. This brings the total national deaths to 792.”

Mkhize has expressed his condolences to the affected families.
