COVID-19 Infections Spike by 7,210, Deaths Increase to 2,413

The Health Department has announced that the number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 131,800.

This is an increase of 7,210 from Friday’s announcement.

The number of deaths has also increased by 73 bringing the total to 2,413.

The Western Cape has the most infections with 59,315 followed by Gauteng at 34,285, Eastern Cape at 23,658, KwaZulu-Natal 7,786, Free State 1,160, North West 3,454, Mpumalanga 925, Limpopo 862, Northern Cape 355 and unallocated infections 0.

The total number of recoveries to date is 67,094 this translates to a recovery rate of 50,9%.

Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 1,529,009 this is an increase of 35,905 which were done in the last 24 hours.

“Regrettably, we report a further 73 COVID-19 related deaths- 3 from KwaZulu Natal, 13 from Eastern Cape, 17 from Gauteng Province and 40 from Western Cape. This brings the total deaths to 2 413. The mortality rate is 1,8%,”

Mkhize has expressed his condolences to the affected families of those who have succumbed to the pandemic.
