Eskom says stage 2 load shedding will continue from Thursday until Friday morning.
The power utility says it’s lost additional generation capacity overnight with breakdowns of over 14 000MW leaving the system severely constrained and unpredictable.
Eskom says emergency reserves are also insufficient to meet the demand for electricity during the day.
“Our teams continue to work tirelessly to return units from planned and unplanned outages. Owing to inadequate maintenance over a number of years, the system remains vulnerable to unplanned outages.
Eskom says load shedding is an essential and controlled measure to ensure that the integrity of the grid is not compromised.
