Police Arrest One Suspect, Searching for Another in the Grim Murder of Naadira Vanker at Informal Settlement in Lenasia South

Police have arrested a -36-year-old man in connection with the murder of Naadira Vanker.

Naadira’s body was found on Wednesday at the Phumlamqashi informal settlement near Lenasia South.

She  was reported missing last week after her car was found in Ennerdale, south of Johannesburg.

Police say the matter was reported to authorities and a detectives team was established, activating a search party in prioritising the case and search for the victim.

The police’s Mavela Masondo says investigation led the team to a shack in Phumlamqashi where one of the suspects was found and pointed officers to a shallow grave inside the yard where Naadira was buried.

Masondo says a postmortem will be conducted to determine how Naadira was killed.

“Gauteng Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela has commended a team of police officers who arrested a 36-year-old man and discovered the body of a woman who was reportedly abducted in Lenasia South in a shallow grave at Phumlamqashi. Police are searching for the second suspect who is still at large.”

Naadira’s mother Nayema has pleaded with the public for privacy to allow the family space following her daughter’s death.
