SA COVID-19 Infections Rise to 599,940 While Deaths Jump to 12,618

The Health Department has announced that the number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 599,940.

This is an increase of 3,880 from Wednesday’s announcement.

The number of deaths has also increased by 195 bringing the total to 12,618.

Gauteng has the most infections with 202,955 followed by Western Cape at 103,616, Eastern Cape at 84,586, KwaZulu-Natal 108,080, Free State 33,665, North West 23,868, Mpumalanga 22,459, Limpopo 12,086, Northern Cape 8,575 and unallocated infections 50.

The total number of recoveries to date is 497,169 which translates to a recovery rate of 82%.

Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 3,480,283 this is an increase of 24,612 which were done in the last 24 hours.

“Regrettably we report 195 new COVID-19 related deaths: 26 from Eastern Cape, 83 from Gauteng, 36 from KwaZulu Natal, 25 from Free State, 12 from Limpopo and 13 from Western Cape. This brings the cumulative total of reported COVID-19 related deaths to 12,618.

Mkhize has expressed his condolences to the affected families of those who have succumbed to the pandemic.
