SA Records 6,130 More COVID-19 Infections, Deaths Increase to 2,529

The Health Department has announced that the number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 144,264.

This is an increase of 6,130 from Sunday’s announcement.

The number of deaths has also increased by 73 bringing the total to 2,529.

The Western Cape has the most infections with 61,375 followed by Gauteng at 39,841, Eastern Cape at 26,195 KwaZulu-Natal 9,041, Free State 1,377, North West 3,931, Mpumalanga 1,089, Limpopo 1,011, Northern Cape 404 and unallocated infections 0.

The total number of recoveries to date is 70,614, which translates to a recovery rate of 48,9%.

Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 1,596,995 this is an increase of 29,911 which were done in the last 24 hours.

“Regrettably, we report a further 73 COVID-19 related deaths- 1 from Mpumalanga, 5 from Limpopo, 2 from North West, 6 from Gauteng, 10 from Eastern Cape, 6 from KwaZulu Natal and 43 from Western Cape. This brings the total deaths to 2529. The mortality rate is 1,8%.”

Mkhize has expressed his condolences to the affected families of those who have succumbed to the pandemic.
