South African Muslims will celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr on Friday.

This comes after the United Ulama Council of South Africa (UUCSA) on Wednesday announced that the moon had not been sighted in South Africa.

This means the the 1st of the Islamic month of Shawwal will also be on Friday.

UUCSA’s Ml Ebrahim Bham says Muslims will fast thirty days in South Africa.

“We urgently appeal to the Muslim ummah that the effort and the striving and the activities towards pleasing Almighty Allah and the Ibaadah that was carried out in Ramadan, we continue with that. We also urged the Muslim ummah that in our interaction with one another we display kindness, compassion and adham. May Allah grant us a Mubarak and blessed Eid.”

Meanwhile the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will be celebrating Eid on Thursday, after the moon was also not sighted in the kingdom on Tuesday.
