Ramaphosa Announces Most of SA Will Drop to Level 3 COVID-19 Lockdown from End of May

President Cyril Ramaphosa has announced that by the end of May, most the country will drop to level 3 of the national COVID-19 lockdown.

Ramaphosa was addressing the nation on Wednesday night about the ongoing measures put in place by government to manage the spread of the coronavirus through the implementation of a risk-adjusted strategy.

The president’s address follows a number of meetings of Cabinet and the coronavirus National Command Council (NCCC).

Ramaphosa says the easing of the lockdown regulations must be done with extreme caution to prevent the spikes in COVID-19 infections we have seen elsewhere in the world.

“By end of May most of the country should be on alert level 3 but those with highest rates of infection will remain on level 4.”

Ramaphosa also says workplaces, schools, universities, colleges and other public places will have to be re-organized to limit transmission.

“We will need to adapt to new ways of worshipping, socialising, exercising and meeting that minimise opportunities for the virus to spread.”

Ramaphosa says while some of the decision’s government has taken haven’t made sense, have been revoked and haven’t been clear government is committed to engage and consult with citizens.
