5-Month Old Baby Sole Survivor of Israeli Attack on Residential Home

A 5-month old baby was the sole survivor of an Israeli attack on a residential home. Eight children and two women were killed in the attack on the house in the Shati refugee camp in the Gaza Strip on Friday night, the fifth night of relentless bombardment by Israel. At least 15 people were also wounded in the air raid, including the infant named Omar.

Rescue workers were digging through the rubble of the Abu Hatab family home in the early hours of Saturday, where more people are believed to be buried.

Daily Sabah reports that Health authorities in Gaza said the term “massacre” was inadequate to describe the incident. Witnesses said the bodies were taken to Shifa hospital after the bombing of the Abu Hatab family house.

A cousin of the person whom the house had belonged to said that the attack took place “without any warning”. He said, “We ran outside; we saw the four-storey house get completely demolished. It was completely levelled. He said that the homeowner’s sister and her children who had been present when the attack occurred had also been killed in the attack.

The family’s funerals were held early Saturday morning.

Meanwhile, the Izzeddin al-Qassam Brigades, announced that it had responded to the attack by firing rockets at Ashdod, Beersheba.

Daily Sabah reports that nearly 30 airstrikes targeted at northern Gaza were carried out by Israeli forces between Friday evening and Saturday morning. The Quleybu Mosque was destroyed entirely in an attack.

Separately, a Lebanese youth was reportedly killed when Israeli artillery fire targeted protesters along the Israeli security fence in the south of the country.
