Residents from the city of Cape Town experienced a 6.2-magnitude earthquake on Saturday in certain parts of the city.

The US Geological Survey (USGS) issued an advisory warning people to take precaution before the quake hit.

The USGS says the tremor occurred at around at a depth of 10 kilometres and far south of South Africa’s coast.

Many Capetonians took to social media sharing their experience of the earthquake.

The City of Cape Town issued a statement saying it noted the reports of an offshore seismic event that was felt in a number of suburbs.

There were no immediate reports of casualties, damages or Tsunami warnings.
