AfriForum Demands An End To Curfew

By Umamah Bakharia

South Africa has now been in lockdown for more than 600 days and with lockdown levels changing from five to one over this period.

AfriForum has now sent a letter of demand to Cooperative Governance Minister Nkosasana Dlamini-Zuma, demanding an end to national curfews

Radio Islam speaks to AfriForum’s Jacques Broodryk on what why curfew should be suspended.

“We ask that the national curfew needs to be scrabbled immediately and should the minister decide not to do that then what we demand is the reasoning,” says Broodryk.

AfriForum says they require the ministry to provide substantial evidence as to why curfew is still enforced in South Africa. They say at the moment there is no progress in the state of disaster but rather a mass abuse of power.

“We are not calling for an end to the state of disaster but at the moment we are asking to end curfews specifically.”

The part has given the minister until Friday to respond to their letter and if there is no response, they will approach the High Court.
