Al-Imdaad Foundation Team & Journalists Safe After Suicide Bomb Rocks Somalia’s Mogadishu

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 20-06-2017

The Al-Imdaad Foundation had confirmed that all its members including two journalists are safe after a bomb ripped through the Somali capital killing at least nine people

It’s understood the bomber posing as a milk delivery van sneaked into the Wadajir district headquarters in Mogadishu earlier today before detonating the explosive.

Police spokesperson Muhamed Hussein says most the dead are civilians.

The Al Imdaad Foundation together with Turkish based NGO IHH, Zam Zam Foundation and journalists Faizel Patel from Radio Islam and Azhar Vadi from Salaamedia were in Mogadishu and Baidoa a few days ago distributing much needed food aid to the Somali people including orphans during the blessed month of Ramadan.

CEO Yacoob Vahed says the entire team that embarked on the mission to Somalia are safe in Istanbul.

“Alhamdulillah we left Somalia yesterday and we all safe in Istanbul. The team is in good spirits but at the same time sad that attack in an area where we’ve been just a few days go has left many people dead. May Allah make it easy for the Somali people.”

The al-Qaida-linked al-Shabaab group has claimed responsibility for the attack via its Shahada News Agency.

According to Al Jazeera, its al-Shabaab military spokesperson Abdiasis Abu Musab says the attack was a suicide bomb.

“It’s a suicide car bomb in Wadajir district building in which Somali officials and their staff stay. There are government and their staff who have died on the scene. We will tell you the number of dead later.”

The blast comes less than a week after al-Shabab gunmen carried out an overnight siege on a popular restaurant in the Somali capital, killing at least 31 people.
