Alleged KZN terror mastermind re-arrested

Today, five men, including a former alleged terror suspect, appeared in the Durban Magistrate’s Court. The men, who cannot be named by order of the court, were arrested in a raid on Friday. The men were apprehended following an intelligence-driven operation at a factory in Mayville

The main accused was previously linked to a series of bomb threats in and around retail stores in Durban. He was also involved in the attack on a Verulam Mosque in 2018. The case was struck off the role last year.

During the raid, the alleged mastermind behind those incidents was re-arrested.

The SAPS were following up on information after a housebreaking in the Scottsburgh area, where several items were stolen. The investigation led police to the factory in Mayville.

Several thousands of rounds of ammunition, rifles, two firearm magazines, several cellular phones, diamonds, and jewellery were seized by the police at the factory.

Some confiscated ammunition is said to belong to the South African Police Service.

The State said it had invited the FBI to assist with the investigation.
