AmaZulu King Goodwill Zwelithini has died at the age of 72.

Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi confirmed that King Zwelithini’s health took a turn for the worst and he passed away in the early hours of Friday morning.

King Zwelithini was admitted to ICU in a private hospital last month after “several unstable glucose readings”.

Buthelezi says the Royal Family thanked the nation for their  continued prayers and support in this most difficult time.

King Goodwill Zwelithini kaBhekuzulu was the King of the Zulu nation under the Traditional Leadership clause of South Africa’s constitution.

He became king on the death of his father, King Cyprian Bhekuzulu kaSolomon in 1968
