Another Johannesburg Masjid Robbed

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News, 2014-07-15

Another masjid has been robbed during the Muslim holy month of Ramadaan, this time in Kensington, Johannesburg.

According to Matthew Brooks from FASDA Protection Services, two armed men accosted about three musallees and stormed the Masjid ul Zinatul Islam in Roberts Avenue before Esha athaan (about 6:45pm) on Monday.

“The suspects robbed the worshippers of an undisclosed amount of donations from the mosque,” said Brooks.

Brooks said the suspects fled the scene in an unidentified white vehicle.

Police were on the scene but have yet to release a statement.

Speaking to Radio Islam, Yusuf Abramjee the head of Crime Line and Second Vice President- Crime Stoppers International said: “It’s very sad when our mosques come under attack and just a day prior to that there was a concern that worshippers were fearing possibly more attacks.”

“We have to be vigilant, we are again calling on the police services to beef up their visibility around our places of worship…These criminals have no respect for our property and no respect for our lives,” added Abramjee.

On July 3rd a gang of men robbed musallees (worshippers) at a central Johannesburg masjid.

Six unknown people attacked those people while they were praying and robbed them of cellphones, cash, and the masjid safe.
