By Hajira Khota                                                                                                                                                        18.11.2021

President Joe Biden held a virtual meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, which the White House said did not result in any breakthroughs in the US-China relationship but did take a step toward managing a relationship that has become increasingly defined by hostility.

Over the last few years, the relationship between the United States and China has become increasingly hostile.

Sanusha Naidu says that since assuming office, Biden has spoken with Xi on the phone twice, but Monday was the first time the two leaders met in a more formal setting.

Rodrigo to run for Philippines Senate in 2022

President Rodrigo Duterte of the Philippines will compete for the Senate in the 2022 elections, avoiding a clash with his daughter in the vice-presidential campaign and offering him a way to continue serving in politics after his term ends.

Duterte’s move clears the way for his daughter, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, to run for Vice President after announcing her candidacy over the weekend. It also increases the likelihood of the late dictator’s son, Ferdinand  Marcos Jr., succeeding him as president.

Naidu says that it is a very complicated situation.

Myanmar’s Aung San Suu Kyi charged for exerting influence over elections

Aung San Suu Kyi, Myanmar’s ousted leader, has been charged with electoral fraud, adding to the several charges she already faces.

Naidu say that the situation in Myanmar is taking an interesting turn as the military is putting pressure on the institutions of state to keep Aung San Suu Kyi and her party out of elections.
