Private security, Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) seeks assistance identifying a female infant child dumped in a bush in Dawncrest in KwaZulu-Natal.

A passerby discovered the baby on Monday, 3 October 2022.

According to Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), a man discovered the baby at the bottom of an embankment next to a stream near a soccer court while picking mangoes. The temperature at the placement was reportedly around 28 degrees Celsius at the time of the discovery.

A bag containing nappies, a bottle of milk and a pacifier was reportedly lying next to the kid. A note in English believed to be written by the mother was also found.

In the note, the mother explained that she made contact with social workers twice but was let down by the system. She said abortion wasn’t an option as it isn’t any longer safe and hospitals have strict rules.

The writer further requested that authorities be notified when the baby is found.

RUSA spokesperson Prem Balram said the man contacted his employer and requested Reaction Unit SA to be called out to the scene.

Balram said on arrival that Reaction Officers pointed out the discovery placement and handed over the kid and the bag. A female officer & Medics were called to the scene, and the child’s soaked diaper was changed.

“The female child was then fed with a bottle of milk. Medics examined the infant, aged approximately three months and found her healthy.”

“A criminal case of child Abandonment will be registered & Reaction Officers will be seeking assistance to identify the child or mother. If any can assist with the identification, kindly contact 086 1234 333 (RUSA).”
