“Be a Champion in Your Field” – LMS Hosts Successful Career Day

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 08-05-2017

Choosing a career is not about the profession, but rather becoming the champion in the field of study a person chooses.

These were the words echoed by various professionals at the Lenasia Muslim School (LMS) career day.

Learners and parents from LMS including schools in Lenasia and surrounds were invited to the career day on Saturday to assist them on making informed choices when pursuing professions after graduating from high school.

The learners were able to tap into the valuable advice and day to day activities by Astronauts, doctors, engineers, pharmacists, pilots and a chef amongst others.

Speakers who addressed the grade 9 to 12 pupils at the career day also included renowned poet and writer Don Matera, Johannesburg Metro Police’s Wayne Minnaar, SAFM and Special Assignment host Ashraf Garda and plastic surgeon Dr. Ridwan Mia.

Garda who is part of Champion SA, an organisation that thrives on nation building and inspires people says becoming a leader in a respective career should be the ultimate goal of learners.

“I am not interested in which subjects you chose and which careers you choose, somebody else can tell you that. All I am asking you to do is you need to play in the champions league. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) would stand up as a great political leader or social leader for social change and social justice. But admiring him and praising him is not enough if you don’t actually emulate him.”

At the same time Dr. Mia says while studying medicine is a lengthy and exhaustive choice, it is a rewarding career.

“It can be very rewarding for themselves down the line. Its very satisfying work, it pleases the heart and benefits many other people around them.”

Mia says learners should motivate themselves to be the very best in their fields which is a duty upon them, their parents and their communities.
