City Power Launches Urgent Investigation into Electrocution of Newly-Wed Couple in Crosby

Faizel Patel – 15/06/2021

City Power has ordered an urgent investigation into allegations that an electrical fault caused by illegal connection was to blame for the deaths of a newly-wed couple

According to the police’s Mavela Masondo, the bodies of 28-year-old Zaheer Sarang and 24-year-old Nabeelah Khan were found inside a shower in Crosby Mayfair on Sunday at about 5:30 pm.

It is suspected the couple was electrocuted but police are waiting for the postmortem results.

City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena says a team has been busy with the preliminary investigation to establish the facts and that the power utility will provide the details at a later stage.

“The CEO Mr. Mongezi Ntsokolo has requested the team to launch an urgent investigation into the allegations that the couple was killed by a faulty electrical connection, attributed to the illegal connections in the area.”

Magena has urged residents not to tamper with electricity infrastructure, vandalism and illegal connections which may lead to circuit malfunctioning
