COVID-19 Deaths Rise to 524, Infections Jump to 24,264

The Health Department has announced that the number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 24,264

This is an increase of 649 from Monday’s announcement.

The number of deaths has also increased by 43 bringing the total to 524.

The Western Cape has the most infections with 15,829, followed by Gauteng at 3,043, KwaZulu-Natal 1,927, Free State 206, North West 115, Mpumalanga 103, Limpopo 132, Eastern Cape 2 864, Northern Cape 45 and unallocated infections 0.

The total number of recoveries to date is 12,741

Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 605,991 this is an increase of 9,214 which were done in the last 24 hours.

“As a country we are now facing a challenge with the global shortage of testing reagents. We understand it is becoming a challenge to many other countries. We are, however, continuing our efforts to secure these reagents from different suppliers all over the world.”

Mkhize has expressed his condolences to the affected families.
