COVID-19 Infections Rise to 563,598, Deaths Increase to 10,621

The Health Department has announced that the number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 563,598.

This is an increase of 3,740  from Sunday’s announcement.

The number of deaths has also increased by 213  bringing the total to 10,621

Gauteng has the most infections with 193,561 followed by Western Cape at 100,213 Eastern Cape at 82,578, KwaZulu-Natal 99,386 Free State 28,909, North West 21,933, Mpumalanga 19,455, Limpopo 10,711, Northern Cape 6,802 and unallocated infections 50.

The total number of recoveries to date is 417,200 which translates to a recovery rate of 74%.

Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 3,267,494 this is an increase of 16,911 which were done in the last 24 hours.

“Regrettably we report 213 new COVID-19 related deaths: 57 from Eastern Cape, 39 from Gauteng, 11 from KwaZulu Natal, 64 from the Free State, 10 from Mpumalanga, 30 from Western Cape and 2 from Northern Cape. This brings the cumulative total of reported COVID-19 related deaths to 10 621.

Mkhize has expressed his condolences to the affected families of those who have succumbed to the pandemic.
