COVID-19 Infections Spike by More than 1,000 to 15,155, Deaths Rise to 264

The Health Department has announced that the number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 15,155

This is an increase of 1,160 from Saturday’s announcement.

The number of deaths has also increased by 3 bring the total to 264

The Western Cape has the most infections with 9,294, followed by Gauteng at 2,329, KwaZulu-Natal 1,543, Free State 158, North West 70, Mpumalanga 71, Limpopo 77, Eastern Cape 1,936, Northern Cape 37 and unallocated infections 0.

Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 460,873 this is an increase of 21,314 which were done in the last 24 hours.

“Regrettably we report a further 3 COVID-19 related deaths- this brings the total national deaths to 264. We are however encouraged by the rising number of recoveries which now stands at 7,006.”

Mkhize has expressed his condolences to the affected families and appreciation to the health workers who treated the patients.
