The Johannesburg Health District has confirmed to Radio Islam that tracers and testers are visiting Lenasia to conduct COVID-19 tests.
Concerns were raised on Tuesday and Wednesday after a group women were spotted going from house to house in Lenasia to test patients for Coronavirus.
Residents have allegedly been refusing to allow the testers and tracers into their homes for fear that they may be imposters.
The Johannesburg Health District’s Sandile Gwai says residents must request identification from the tracers and testers before allowing them into the premises.
“I would like to confirm we do have tracers and testers that are doing door to door around Lenasia. As they visit the households, they must introduce themselves, show their name tags and tell which clinic they are linked to.”
Gauteng has so far recorded 2,014 infections, the second highest number of COVID-19 cases in the country while 22 people have died in the province from the pandemic.
