Denmark Honours 67 Palestinian Children Killed in Israeli Air Strikes

This weekend saw Denmark pay tribute to the 67 children who perished in the wake of Israel’s brutal attack on Gaza.

Over the past two weeks, the region has been under siege, as  Israel repeatedly assaults the Gaza strip.

At least 250 Palestinians have died in the clashes, and 67 of them were children. 12 Israelis have also been reported dead.

Pressure from the international community has since mounted and a ceasefire was reached on Thursday evening with Egypt’s help – Hamas claimed victory, and says it shows that the resistance is working.

For the people of Palestine, it means their efforts are not in vain, as a global community the world has refused to stand by and watch injustice unfold while simply doing nothing. Thousands of people around the world have marched in solidarity with the Palestinian people while thousands more continue to campaign on social media.

The situation hit breaking point when one of Islam’s holiest sites, Masjidul Aqsa was stormed by Israeli forces and left in ruins; many worshippers were injured in the assault.

South Africa has stood behind Palestine for many years, the Rainbow nation is in full support of the introduction of sanctions against Israel which will form part of a strategy to end hostilities between the country and Palestine.

Minister of International Relations and Co-operation, Naledi Pandor has always been clear about her stance on the matter. In an interview with 702 on Monday, she said the discussion about cutting ties with Israel is not a new one; it is certainly being considered says the Minister and she will be engaging with Israeli leaders.

“I do remember that Israel is the aggressor and the Palestinians are trying to protect themselves with adequate means, they are trapped in an apartheid manner. They can’t move without permits, they do not have a livelihood they do not have land, so they respond by whatever means they can but they remain the victim and we should not forget that.”

The ceasefire between the two nations has held strong for 3 days.
