Double murder accused Rameez Patel has failed to explain to the Polokwane High Court about why he changed clothes on the day his wife was murdered.

Patel was back in the dock on Tuesday facing double murder charges after he was linked to his wife and mother’s killing in separate incidents in 2015.

His wife Fatima was found dead at their Polokwane apartment in 2015.

Patel is also accused of killing his mother Mahejeen Banu Patel who was shot dead at her home in Polokwane also in 2015.

Rameez’s brother Razeen was shot in 2018, just a few days before testifying against him, his father Feroz was killed in an unsolved robbery and the father of his current wife Nazreen was kidnapped and killed.

Police have not linked Patel to the two murder cases.

The National Prosecuting Authority’s (NPA) Mashudu Malabi Dzhangi says Patel told the court that he did not give his jacket to the police because they did not ask for it.

“Patel could not explain to the court the movement of his clothes that he was wearing during the incident as clothes were left to his uncle’s house and moved to his home and later brought back to his uncle. The police were given the clothes without the jacket and later the police were given a wet jacket.”

Patel is still under cross-examination with the trial expected to resume on Wednesday.
