Durban Masjid Brawl Nothing but Some Muslims Behaving Badly

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 24-05-2018

Islamic scholar and Radio Islam presenter Ml Junaid Kharsany has raised concerns about whether the decorum and sanctity of masaajid are being honoured after a brawl at a Masjid in Durban during the blessed month of Ramadan.

It’s understood the fight at Masjid Hilaal in Overport broke out on Tuesday night after apparent misbehaving children who were reprimanded by an elder reported the scolding to their parents.

According to reports, the situation escalated after the parents confronted the elder resulting in blows being exchanged outside the masjid.

Ml Kharsany says the house of Allah must be respected at all times, while at the same time people should address their concerns in an amicable manner instead of tarnishing the beauty of Islam.

“Crowd control in the masaajid, children giggling and laughing at the back, whose real responsibility is it? Is it the parent’s responsibility? A person who chastises those children, can he be held responsible, even that person who is responsible for maintaining order at the back, should he do it in a certain way in involving the parents?”

Ml Kharsany says while the video has gone viral the matter has been resolved.

“They’re just people behaving badly and they’re back in the masjid and they seem to have shaken hands and got on with life.”

In a fatwa, Mufti Ebrahim Desai says children who do not know the etiquettes of the masjid and have no knowledge of ritual cleanliness should not be allowed to come to the masjid, while those children who do know ritual cleanliness and sanctity and reverence of the masjid are welcomed to attend.
