Education Dept Allows Pupils Another Chance to Write Exams due to Taxi Strike

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 08-11-2017

The Gauteng Education Department says it has informed school principals to allow pupils another opportunity to write yearend exams if they have missed any tests due to the taxi strike.

The taxi industry is unhappy about the Bus Rapid Transport System, operating licences and public transport subsidies among other issues and have gone on strike in Tshwane and Johannesburg on Wednesday.

The department says pupils writing yearend exams will be accommodated as part of the province remain affected by the taxi strike.

Gauteng MEC for Education Panyaza Lesufi has appealed to parents to make necessary alternative transport arrangements especially for Grade 12 learners.

“It is important noting that this activity happens during our critical examination period and as such all learners will not be disadvantaged because of an activity which is beyond their control. The department will invoke necessary prescripts for all those learners who might not make it to the exam.”

Lesufi says Chief Invigilators will also use their discretion, to accommodate learners to write at alternative centres.
