The Gauteng Health Department says the fire at the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital has reignited and fire fighters are on scene battling the blaze.

Gauteng health department spokesperson Kwara Kekana says the fire  broke out  on Friday morning affecting the dispensary where all the dry and medical items are kept.

Kekana says the blaze was eventually contained, but reignited later on Friday evening.

She says patients were evacuated as a precaution and to protect them rom possible smoke inhalation.

“We are also looking at evacuating patients from the hospital to other facilities within the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital Cluster (nearby hospitals).”

No casualties or fatalities have been reported.
