The Gauteng Health Department says it’s deeply concerned about the increasing pattern of cluster outbreaks of COVID-19 as a result of funerals in the province.

Under COVID-19 lockdown level 3, funeral gatherings of no more than fifty people are permitted with strict hygiene rules in place.

With infections also on the rise, the department has revealed that 700 COVID-19 patients are now hospitalised.

Gauteng Health Department spokesperson Kwarra Kekana said: “We are appealing to communities to be extra cautious and to adhere to regulations when organizing and attending funerals.

Gauteng has a total of 18,978 COVID-19 infections with 114 deaths and 4,273 recoveries.
