Gauteng Health Department Increases COVID-19 Vaccination Sites Across the Province

As the mass vaccination rollout programme enters its second week, the Gauteng Health Department has added new vaccination sites to ensure that more elderly people who 60-years and older can get vaccinated.

The move by the department increases the public vaccination sites in Gauteng from 28 to 63 sites spread across the regions of Johannesburg, Tshwane, Ekurhuleni, West Rand and Sedibeng.

The Gauteng Health Department says about 40 028 people have been vaccinated at old Age Homes and health facilities across the province.

Spokesperson Kwarra Kekana says phase 1B of the vaccination programme is focusing on healthcare workers, traditional practitioners and funeral parlour employees while Phase 2 of the programme is prioritising persons who are  60 years and older.

“All residents are urged to reduce the spread of the pandemic by getting the COVID-19 vaccine where their turn comes. However the public is urged not to visit vaccination sites until they’ve registered and received the SMS advising them to do so.”

Kekana says by vaccinating and adhering to the non-pharmaceutical interventions we can reduce the spread of COVID-19 and keep the economy open.
