IFP calls for investigation into allegations of politicians funding gangs in KZN

By Zuleikha Ahmed
11:06:2021

The KZN Premier Sihle Zikalala has been called upon by the IFP to urgently appoint a task team to investigate allegations of some politicians involved in helping and funding gang members with their crimes in the Pietermaritzburg and surrounding areas.

Concerns began when police mention that there are politicians and businessmen involved in helping these crimes.

Blessed Gwala, the spokesperson for the IFP, says: – After this statement by the police was made public, they were appalled to investigate deeper into the situation and looking to find out more about the situation.

He further stated that nothing could be done without the help and assistance of Premier Sihle Zikalala, being the only one that can assign a task team that can investigate the case further. To bring out this investigation on these politicians and criminals in these communities, be uprooted. He reminded the listeners that related statistics by police minister Bheki Cele himself painted a bleak picture of KZN, which recorded a double deceit increase in overall crimes of almost 15.9%.

Hence, the IFP says that the Premier must appoint a task team investigating the allegations and dismantle criminal networks irrespective of who is involved.
