Lao Tzu once said, “If you do not change direction, you may end up where you are heading.” Lately, it seems like Israel is heading toward a Zionist theocracy.

The 14th of Mah marked the 75th Nakba, or catastrophe for Palestinians, whilst the Israelis celebrated the birth of a state. Co-founder and Director of the Ayaan Institute, Jahangir Mohammed, spoke to Radio Islam International about the history and support that saw Israel take control of Palestine.

According to Mohammed, The Zionist movement was created in the 19th century and existed amongst Christian communities in the West. There was spiritual Zionism amongst the Jews, with little interest in creating a state as such.

He said The Zionists came up with the idea of a Jewish Nationalist State and initially had set their sights on persuading the Ottoman Caliphs to allow Jewish settlers in Ottoman Palestine at the time.

“Sultan Abdul Hamid the second had spies in the Zionist movement, aware of what was going on, he refused their demands. However, he recognised the oppression of Jews and allowed them to settle in the Ottoman Empire but not in Palestine or in one area as a whole,” he says.
