Israeli occupation can’t stop Gazans’ love for Al-Aqsa

By: Zahid Jadwat

As Israeli authorities continue to illegally restrict Palestinians’ access to Masjid-Al-Aqsa, Gazans say it simply isn’t enough to wane their affinity for Islam’s third holiest site.

In an interview with Radio Islam, as part of a segment commemorating Aqsa Week, social activist Issam Hammaad said: “Gazans, as well as all Palestinians, have a special place for Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque in their hearts”.

He explained that the love for Jerusalem and Masjid-Al-Aqsa is evident in prominent landmarks and facilities across Gaza.

“When you come to Gaza, you will see kindergartens, mosques and streets in the name of Al-Aqsa. Al-Aqsa Mosque is in the hearts of the people – you see it everywhere.

Hammaad added that children are taught the importance of the site throughout their schooling careers.

“We teach children throughout schooling time the geography, history, importance, religious status of Jerusalem so it is impossible for Palestinians to forget or ignore this important place,” he said.

“The Palestinians have been fighting for their freedom for years and will continue their fight in order to gain their freedom and free Al-Aqsa Mosque from the Israelis.”

Meanwhile, Palestinian journalist Akram al Sattari told Radio Islam that Palestinians, especially Gazans, continue to be restricted by Israeli authorities. He said the Ukraine crisis has caused food prices to skyrocket.

“The people of Gaza are still living under the blockade. The people of Gaza are suffering even more, given the tense situation between Ukraine and Russia. The prices are going sky-high. They have been paying the price of being Palestinian.”
