Jacob Zuma’s Supporters Gather at Nkandla as He Prepares to Address the Media

Faizel Patel – 04/07/2021

Throngs of supporters have gathered outside former President Jacob Zuma’s Nkandla homestead vowing to thwart any attempts to arrest him.

On Tuesday, the former president was found guilty of contempt of a Constitutional Court ruling that he must appear and participate at the state capture commission.

The Apex court sentenced the former president to 15 months in jail.

In a scathing judgement, the court noted that Zuma had been given ample opportunity to cooperate with the commission but failed to do so.

Earlier Zuma announced via his JG Zuma Foundation Twitter page that he will address the media at 6pm on Sunday evening from the auditorium in Nkandla.

On Saturday the former President addressed his supporters maintaining that he is innocent, he does not know what crime he committed to be sent to jail and that the jail sentence he was handed isn’t right.

Meanwhile, the Al Jama-ah political party said it was seeking a presidential pardon for Zuma

The party says it has written to Justice Minister Ronald Lamola calling on him to prepare a submission to President Cyril Ramaphosa to allow Zuma to be granted amnesty.

Al Jama-ah leader Ganief Hendricks says the Constitutional Court  should have only sent Zuma to jail if it was an unanimous decision.
