Kruger National Park urges travellers to pre-book their visits for long weekend

Radio Islam News | 12 April 2017

The Kruger National Park has advised holidaymakers visiting the park during the long weekend to pre-book their visit or risk being turned away.

The park says its gates have a daily quota of people who may visit, and during peak periods, this quota is reached as early as 8am.

“For busy periods such as the Easter Holidays, we aim to better manage the volumes that we expect, as well as our visitors’ expectations. The three different time slots are aimed at improving the spread of vehicles and, as far as possible prevent unnecessary waiting periods at gates”, said the SANParks Acting Head of Communications, William Mabasa.

Mabasa says the pre-booking system will come into effect from Thursday this week until Monday 17 April.

“You need to book beforehand, like you book your accommodation, and say on this day I would be coming to the park as well as the number of people coming. There is also a fee for reserving that space for you.”

Visitors have been urged to make pre-bookings for their visits prior to their arrival choosing from any of the following time slots:

  • Time slot 1: 06.00 to 08:00
  • Time slot 2: 08:00 to 10:00
  • Time slot 3: 10:00 onwards

In addition, pre-booked day visitors have been advised to ensure that they arrive within the time slots, as per their reservation. Arriving outside the booked time slot, will be regarded as non-booked and would nullify the preference. Pre-booked day visitors will get preference over non-booked day visitors at the gate.

Under the system, visitors may book up to 80% of the Day Visitor Quota per gate via SANParks Reservations offices or online at www.sanparks.org.
