KZN Radio Journalist in Hot Water Over Racist Facebook Comments

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 06-03-2017

A senior journalist at a KwaZulu-Natal radio station has apologised for racist comments and hate speech made on a social media platform saying that South Africa belongs to black people and that all other racial groups are nothing but aliens.

Andile Moshoeshoe from Gagasi FM was commenting on a Facebook post by Haseena Majid who said “Lumka Oliphant refuses to speak English on a radio interview.”

In one of the comments Moshoeshoe said: “some fellow black people are stupid Kaf***s who think they have achieved all because they speak English better than others….And are very misled to associate themselves with people like you…”

When Moshoeshoe was told by Majid to get an oxygen tank because he couldn’t breathe due to white people taking up space in the country, he replied: “I don’t need one because there is a solution for that….the solution is to necklace them as they did to our freedom fighters.”

When Majid informed Moshoeshoe she would escalate his comments to the relevant authorities, he replied: “please do that with pleasure and I don’t giva a sh***t.”

Moshoeshoe has since apologised for his comments on Facebook saying that he retracts the statements made on the social media platform.

“The response received by the comments I made seemed to be tearing hearts of fellow South Africans just made me to understand that such sentiments are not warranted and are not constructive to our beloved democratic country. With this, I retract and apologise sincerely.”

Social cohesive activist Yusuf Abramjee says the comments made by Moshoeshoe has come as a shock.

“He’s clearly promoting racism, he’s clearly promoting hate speech to talk of necklacing is totally unacceptable. I’ve made contact with the management of the radio station and they’ve promised to look into the matter very urgently.”

Abramjee says he hopes that appropriate action would be taken against Moshoeshoe, failing which he will report the matter to the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC).
