Lenasia SAPS & Community Patrollers Honoured

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 22-12-2016

The Gauteng Provincial Community Police Board has urged Lenasia residents to continue working with police and the community policing forum (CPF) to fight crime in the suburb.

Yesterday Lenasia SAPS and the CPF honoured a number of officers, community patrollers, sponsors and media organisation at the excellence awards 2016 “night of the stars” ceremony for their commitment and dedication in fighting crime within the Lenasia precinct.

While Trophies and certificates were awarded to a number of police officers who excelled in their respective fields, local community patrollers also bagged a few awards including Shiraz Motala for patroller of the year, Yahya Ahmed, chairperson of the year and Mohammad Kaka as the best commander of the patrollers.

Radio Islam along with East Wave radio, Lenz FM, Lenasia Times and Rising Sun were also awarded certificates of appreciation for volunteering their time and efforts to SAPS Lenasia’s fight against crime.

Gauteng Provincial Community Police Board’s TJ Masemola says he is impressed by the relationship between the community and Lenasia police.

“I’ve never seen a station let alone a cluster that is organised that is working with the police as good thus far as Lenasia”

CPF Chair Ebrahim Asvat says the awards evening at the Pentarosa School Hall in Lenasia will be an annual event to acknowledge police, patrollers, businesses and the community at large for persevering through unique and often traumatic challenges.

“He who does not thank man cannot thank the Almighty. So we basically just getting together to say thank you, to acknowledge the good work done by our SAPS, by our patrollers, by our neighbourhood watch guys. We just acknowledge the good that everybody is doing.”

Earlier this month station commander Brigadier Ngwako Godfrey Mashao said Lenasia police station had been rated in the top position for the past three months in the Soweto area for performance.
