Lenasia School Teacher Suspended Following Alleged Islamophobic Incident

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 17-11-2016

The Jamiatul Ulama South Africa says it is aware of an alleged Islamophobic incident at a school in Lenasia, south of Johannesburg.

It’s believed that a teacher at Apex Primary School allegedly hit the Islamic headgear of a Muslim pupil and also allegedly made a remark that Muslim kids are terrorists.

In a statement, secretary general Moulana Ebrahim Bham says Moulana Suliman Bhayat from the Jamiatul Ulama South Africa’s Lenasia branch approached the Principal K.V. Maluleke about the incident.

Ml. Bham says that Maluleke confirmed that he as well as the staff of Apex School is aware of the incident and it had already been discussed in a staff meeting.

“The Principal and staff are said to be disgusted by the incident and the necessary steps were already in motion in order to deal with it. Mr. Maluleke is also in the process of liaising with the department of education.”

According to the Jamiat the teacher accused in the incident has been suspended from his duties.
