Lenz Station set for opening as revamp plans are underway

Umamah Bakharia

The Lenasia train station is set to make a comeback in the upcoming months after it halted services due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“I am very excited that the train station will be up and running again, this project is something Lenasia can be proud of,” says councillor Imraan Moosa as he steer heads the campaign.

According to Prasa, Lenasia residents will be able to hear the horn of the trains again by November as the agency looks to bring back rail services across South Africa.

Construction company, Amabuyaze says they will be utilising the upcoming few weeks to repair damages and alterations as they intend to make use of local labour.

“Amabuyaze will employ 20 general labourers from the local community to work with our articians,” says project supervisor, Simphiwe Buzi.

With an operation date set for October/November, Prasa says they will be using diesel locomotives to operate the trains through Lenasia to Johannesburg CBD during peak hour.

Meanwhile, the commuters of Lenasia say they are happy that the trains will be operating again as it will help them save on travel costs.
