The Basic Education Department says parents who do not accept their children’s placement at an allocated school for the new academic year will forfeit their application.

Time is running out for parents who still need to accept the school allocated to their children for the 2021 academic year.

Parents have about a week to make their choice.

Gauteng MEC Panyaza Lesufi addressed the media yesterday on the latest developments regarding the 2021 Online Admissions Placement process for Grade 1 and 8 while urging parents to accept the school allocated to their children.

The MEC’s spokesperson Steven Mabona says they are starting with the placement period on 1 October.

“One we send the SMS’ to parents on the 1st (October) that is a Thursday, it’s important to accept the placement offer so that you don’t forfeit it, because if you don’t, we will than consider the other parent that is next inline on the waiting list.”

Mabona says there has been overwhelming response to the online registration process.

“When we look into the system, we saw that over five hundred thousand applications were processed. When you drill down to individual applications, we have about two hundred and fifty five thousand of those that have applied. So it tells you that we are sitting about seventy thousand odd of those that still need to apply for late registration.”

Lesufi says the issue of space remains a concern for the department, but all children will be placed.
