[LISTEN] #EarthHour2021: Turn Off Your Lights to Roll Back the Ravages of Climate Change

Faizel Patel – 27/03/2021

Entomologist at Candide and Babylonstoren Arné Stander says Earth Hour is a critical initiative which focuses on rolling back the ravages of climate change.

Earth Hour is an annual tradition which started in 2007 in Sydney, Australia, when the WWF encouraged 2.2 million people to turn off their lights for one hour to support action on climate change.

Earth Hour takes place on 27 March from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. local time

Speaking to Radio Islam, Stander says each one of us has a responsibility to conserve energy.

“It’s an hour where we want to conserve energy and the focus is also around artificial light but also what of what the whole effect climate change is on our very lives.”

Stander also shared details about a wonderful mobile gardening app called Candide which assists users to grow their knowledge with tips and tricks including identifying  plants in seconds using Plant ID.

Users can also ask questions, post photos and share their gardening wins.

The app is free to download from the Apple App Store or the Google Playstore
