[LISTEN] EXCLUSIVE: Former Taliban Minister Abdul Salam Zaeef Wrote to Barack Obama Telling Him the US Would be Defeated in Afghanistan

Faizel Patel – 26/08/2021

Former Taliban Minister Abdul Salam Zaeef has told Radio Islam he wrote a letter to former US President Barack Obama advising him stop the cruelty that America was unleashing on Afghanistan during the invasion and occupation.

Zaeef was speaking to Radio Islam in an exclusive interview about the Taliban seizing power after 20 years from the Western-backed Afghan government and the American occupation forces and its allies.

The former Taliban minister who visited South Africa a few years ago touched on a number of aspects of the takeover of Afghanistan, including the defeat of the US and its allies, the Taliban forming a new inclusive government and the backlash by mainstream media following the organization retaking power.

Zaeef says he sent Obama the letter more than twenty years ago.

“I told him three things. I told him that and advise you like Muhammad (SAW), the other people and the Muslim that if you want to be a good person, stop your people from the cruelty from the invasion. Secondly, I told him that the person to be leading the cruelty in the world, how’s it possible to get his (peace) prize. The third thing I explained to him the Russians were not defeated by the people of Afghanistan. The people of Afghanistan had not support from the world accept Allah and they were always asking Allah to help us.”

Zaeef says he does not really want to be involved in the new Afghan government.

“It’s not important for me to have a role or not. I will be happy to have no responsibility. But I will cooperate, I would do what I can, my best with the people of Afghanistan when the Islamic system is implemented in Afghanistan.”

Earlier Zaeef told Radio Islam, despite the invasion and twenty-years of occupation by the US and its allies including Afghans working and supporting the occupying forces, the Taliban have showed that they have changed, will not take revenge and forgive everyone and grant amnesty.
