[LISTEN] Ibrahim Vawda: A Pillar of Strength who had the Ability to be Stern but Gentle in the Same Breath”

Faizel Patel – 22/01/2021

(Twitter: @FaizelPatel143)

The Chairman of the Media Review Network Zaakir Ahmed Mayet says the passing of Ibrahim Vawda has left a huge void in the struggle for truth and justice.

Marhoom Ibrahim Vawda passed away on the blessed day of Jumu’ah.

He was admired and loved by thousands of students who cherished his sacrifices as both teacher and principal.

Mayet says the young leadership of the MRN were in a prime position to be the recipients of the knowledge and wisdom of Marhoom Ibrahim Vawda.

“So, over the many years that we’ve worked together, he has been a pillar, a father figure, a mentor, a friend and companion, always very clear on his advice. Dr Aisha Soni wrote a tribute this afternoon and she shared it amongst the Media Review Network colleagues and she says something very clearly there. She says that ‘Uncle Ibrahim has this ability to be stern but gentle in the same breath.”

Mayet says Marhoom Ibrahim Vawda always advised people never to lose sight of real issues adding that he and a fellow colleague attorney Ziyaad Patel almost got shot down by Syrian air defences who were tracking Israeli planes en-route to a conference in Beirut.

“Uncle Ibrahim was fearless. He took those steps, he went to these places, he met the resistance leaders, he met the brothers and sisters on the ground, he was in Sabra and Shatilla. This is the legacy uncle Ibrahim leaves for us, its one of bravery, one of commitment. He was not one to be always in the limelight, he would be one in the background doing the difficult work and he never asked for any acknowledgment or praise. But today indeed we see it from different quarters.”

The MRN says as a regular contributor to media, Marhoom Ibrahim Vawda ably and professionally led compelling arguments in defence of the honour of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
