The Al Imdaad Foundations Ml Mohammed Motala says the impact of the looting in KwaZulu-Natal has left the province devastated comparing it to what he experienced in Syria and Palestine when distributing relief aid.

Ml Motala was speaking to Radio Islam about the situation in Durban, painting a grim picture of the impact of the riots on residents.

Over the past five days, the protests have morphed into a criminal wave that’s knocking onto basic supplies.

Parts of KZN are now experiencing shortage with people queuing for petrol, bread and other staples.

An emotional Ml Motala says the devastation of the looting spree is heartbreaking which has impacted many people across the province.

“I was tasked to distribute it to some of the people and amazingly Moulana, I had Ulama and the rich messaging me and requesting all for bread and milk for their children. One of them saying, please if I can arrange for him milk today for his daughter.”

Ml Motala says people were parked in kilometres and standing in queues for bread and milk.

“That was the scene I used to see in Syria and Palestine. Never ever have I thought the day would come that I would be giving a report back on the conditions of South African Muslims.”

Ml Motala says the looting has also impacted mothers who have formed WhatsApp groups to source necessities for their children.

“There’s about 750 mothers on these groups who are in dire need for necessities such as nappies and diapers for their babies, formula milk, there’s no formula milk.”

Ml Motala says while the situation is very dire in KZN, he has urged the Muslim community to turn to Allah in this time for need.
