What does a husband need to know about the dreams and aspirations of his wife?

As part of Women’s day, Radio Islam focused on specific aspects of women including their needs, qualities, the biology and the appreciation of someone who plays an integral role in our society.

While many husbands have aspirations about their life and careers, the needs of women must also be acknowledged and appreciated.

Discussing the dreams and aspirations of women on Radio Islam on Wednesday, Ml Sulaimaan Ravat says very often newly weds have to give up their goals because of the different responsibilities associated with being married.

Ml Ravat however says dreams and aspirations are an important part of who you are, embedded in the heart and never really dissolves away.

“The reality is that when a lady gets married, her aspirations and dreams are still a possibility even though she is a wife to her husband and a mother to her children. But it depends quite a bit on the mindset and assistance  of the husband. So a woman can be a good wife, a good mother and still have dreams and aspirations which she can pursue.”

Ml Ravat says that many husbands may forget the aspect of their wives also having dreams and aspirations.

“They don’t engage their wives, they don’t speak to their wives about their dreams and aspirations. Some may actually tell you ‘my wife’s got no real dreams and aspirations. That’s because you never asked her in a way where she was safe to apply her mind and to speak her mind. So women should not be made to give up all of their aspirations because of marriage.”

Ml Ravat says ‘marriage is not a place where you lose yourself; it should be a place where you find yourself.’
