Foreign Affairs Minister Naledi Pandor has wished the Muslim community in South Africa and across the globe a blessed and wonderful Ramadan.

Minister Pandor was speaking to Radio Islam ahead of the moon sighting in South Africa by the United Ulama Council of South Africa (UUCSA) on Monday.

With Ramadan excitement enveloping the world, sadly the moon was not sighted in South Africa, therefore the great month of Ramadan will commence on Tuesday just before 6pm.

Minister Pandor says Ramadan is a wonderful opportunity and period for the Muslim community to be united.

“Being together in faith during this important holy month of Ramadan is a great reward to all of us as Muslims.”

Minister Pandor, who is a practicing Muslim, says she has a more spiritual regiment during the month of Ramadan

“I would follow all the requirements. At the moment, I am trying to look at how I manage sehri (pre-dawn meal) and manage my gym, which is trying to keep fit, which is very important. Of course we observe our prayers and ensure that we keep faith and observe all the rules.”

Minister Pandor has also urged South Africans that as the country enters the holy month of Ramadan to observe the COVID-19 restrictions under level one of the lockdown.

She has wished the Muslim Ummah across the world a blessed Ramadan.

“I wish all Muslims a Ramadan Mubarak. I wish that they will feel their spirit emboldened, their faith enlarged and that they will enjoy and celebrate the wonder of Islam during this wonderful month of Ramadan. I wish all the best to the Ummah and your radio station.”

Like most people across the world who love Ramadan savories, Minister Pandor also shared her most loved savory; listen to the podcast to find out.
